Physician’s Formula Work It! Marathonista Tinted Moisturizer Review

Now that the sun is out, it’s necessary to change my makeup routine to suit the hot weather. I’ve been looking for an affordable BB cream or tinted moisturizer that has sunscreen, is light enough for everyday use in the heat, and has enough coverage to neutralize the redness on my face. And I found exactly that!

This is Physician’s Formula “Organic wear 100% Natural Origin Work It! Marathonista Tinted Moisturizer SPF 40” that’s a mouthful… The packaging makes a lot of impressive claims, such as it being gym proof and 10k proof. Here is the description from the Physician’s Formula website:

10K Proof. Gym Proof. Sweat Proof*. Water Resistant.*
    *80 minute sweat/water resistant.
  • 100% Natural ProFit Blendโ„ข: A special blend of proteins and antioxidants that work to replenish moisture and energize skin:
Kale, Carrot, Lemon & Quinoa Protein Blend: provides Amino Acids, Vitamin A, C and E to boost hydration, support skin elasticity, help defend against skin damage caused by environmental exposure & help brighten skin tone.
Super Berry Complex: rich in antioxidants, these super-berries strengthen and help maintain skins instant and long-term hydration.

That’s a lot of benefits promised for a $15 drugstore product! I was initially attracted to this product because of the packaging; it’s so bright and cute! The second thing that lured me in was that it was SPF 40, which is awesome! I don’t know if the FDA recommended SPF 15 is adequate for the amount of sun my skin has to deal with in Southern California.

I don’t like that this only comes in two colors. Light, and Light/Medium. PF is kind of notorious for having very few colors to choose from. (Some of their foundations come in one shade called “natural” so does that mean other shades are unnatural?) I wear NC30 in MAC foundation which is one of the most medium shades you can get. I bought the darker color, Light/Medium. This moisturizer has very warm undertones and can look too orange on cool-toned skin. I personally think the undertones are great because most other BB creams available at drugstores are very pink and bring out the redness in my skin. If you have yellow undertones or problems with redness or rosacea, this is a great color.

This moisturizer is thick and feels almost like sunscreen. It’s best applied with a beauty blender, rather than with your fingers (I use either my fingers or a beauty blender, I don’t really use foundation brushes). This gives really good medium coverage. I have a lot of redness around my nose and cheeks and this covers all of it. Even though the cream is thick, it feels weightless once applied to your face. It has a kind of weird smell to it at first, but the smell goes away after a minute or so.

It dries to a dewy finish which you may not like if you have oily skin. It’s nothing that can’t be fixed with a touch of powder to set it.

I have worn this all day many times and I don’t think it’s quite as longwearing as it claims. After a few hours it begins to separate, especially on dry patches. It will stay on like a foundation if you use setting spray or powder.

I love that this is formulated without parabens, synthetic fragrances, and harsh chemicals. My skin is pretty sensitive and finicky yet I haven’t broken out once while using this.

I think I lucked out in choosing an affordable tinted moisturizer. This has instantly become one of my favorites and I use it daily.ย This is available at Walgreens, Ulta, or the Physician’s Formula website for $14.95USD
